Temperatures tumble as we head towards the weekend
Thursday is warm, Friday is seasonable, but we get cold again Saturday and Sunday
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) - Wednesday was breezy along with a mix of sun and clouds as temperatures rose into the mid 50s! Though Thursday is also warm, it will be a few degrees cooler before temperatures plunge into the weekend!
Expect a mix of sun and clouds on Thursday along with westerly winds between 5-15 miles per hour. Highs will be warm, but slightly cooler than Wednesday with temperatures reaching the upper 40s and lower 50s. Friday will feature more cloud coverage, which will be coupled with more northeasterly winds. These two features will keep temperatures down only in the upper 30s and low 40s for the end of the week before moisture and colder air arrives!
We’re tracking a low pressure system (a.k.a. what will be an Alberta Clipper) off of the coast of the Pacific Northwest as it will be the next weather maker for our region. This system will bring a winter storm for the eastern US, but the exact locations and impacts for the Ohio and Tennessee Valleys are yet to be determined at this point. There is a lot of model variability with regards to amounts of moisture in the region as well as the exact timing and locations with the greatest impacts. With that being said, there are uncertainties with this forecast, and we will not be sharing a snowfall forecast until data becomes more aligned along with a better understanding of the path the low pressure system takes. For now, the potential for a winter storm that could bring snow, sleet, light freezing rain and rain are all on the table for Saturday and Saturday night with snow more likely on Sunday in the region. Because of the large uncertainty at play with this forecast, we are looking at both Saturday and Sunday with CAUTION, meaning that if confidence increases in impacts for our region, we’ll issue a First Alert Weather Day. For right now, we are awaiting more data and further assessment of the track. Stay tuned to the forecast for further updates as the next 12-24 hours will bring us much better insight into how this will play out.
Despite the uncertainties with the system on Saturday and Sunday, we are much more certain that it will be colder. Friday night into Saturday will have lows down in the low 30s under variably cloudy skies. With the approaching system, skies will be variably cloudy with easterly winds for Saturday - which will keep high temperatures only in the mid-to-upper 30s. Saturday night into Sunday will not cool down as much due to clouds and moisture, which will only keep lows in the mid-to-upper 20s. By Sunday, colder air moves in along with breezy northerly winds. Highs Sunday will only be in the low-to-mid 30s along with variably cloudy skies. Drier air moves in by Sunday night and into Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday), with morning lows in the teens and low 20s. The holiday will be cold with mostly cloudy skies and only in the mid 30s. Things get warmer quickly going into Tuesday and Wednesday with highs back in the 40s with isolated rain showers returning by Wednesday.
